MINUTES – PAC meeting, May 20, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:31pm at Buckstop Junction gas station by President Pat Fricke.  Secretary’s Report: Approved as printed. 1st Kevin Schatz, 2nd Don Roloff, voice carry. Treasurer’s Report: Steve Ellefson gave summary. 1st Larry Heinle, 2nd Don Roloff, voice carry.


New Business



  1. New Members & Guests: New members include Harvey Schilling, Weston Wiedrich, Keith Benz, and Brad Benz.  Guest Garrett Borlock was present.

  2. Correspondence:  Thank you note from the Rudnick family for flowers sent by PAC.

  3. Carol Fricke made iron-on or sew-on PAC patches for $10/ea. Contact Pat Fricke if you’re interested.

  4. NDDOT Directors State Highway Officials Conference & Car Show is Monday, July 12 from 5pm – 9pm. Show up with a classic car and get two meal tickets. Enter at gate by gas station.  Register online by clicking the Register Now link here. All classic car owners are welcome. Invitations will be sent to the Bismarck/Mandan car clubs.

  5. Gas Truck: Steve Ellefson brought up the topic of refurbishing the engine and transmission for approximately $2,500. Motion by Dale Speckmann to approve the project, 2nd Rob Schatz, voice carry.

  6. New upcoming events listed on web site.

Old Business



  1. Honorary Life Membership Policy: There much discussion revolving around the honorary life membership policy.  Majority of members disapproved of the policy altogether. Plan to change start to change by-laws next meeting, but first the policy change had to be defeated. Betty Baepple motioned to approve the changes to the honorary life membership policy, 2nd Jerome Zimmerman, motion defeated by majority of members. We do know how to say “Nay”!

Committee Reports



  1. Communications: Logins for the website were sent out.  Members can now login and post to the forum, photo galleries, and create their own blogs. The newsletter will remain outside the login area so that anyone can download it.

  2. Model T Build: Model T will be assembled 3 times during the Medora car show on June 26 and once before the musical that night.  The team will also do the build in Lemmon, SD on July 10. The Florida Flywheelers sent an invitation to compete in their Model T competition in Florida. Pat Fricke will reply that the club is not interested.

  3. Acres of Iron Car Show May 22, 2010:Dale Speckmann, co-chairman. The show will be downtown Mandan during sports and recreation show. Proceeds from brats & burgers will go to Amber’s Dream car build project. 100 dash plaques were ordered from Dakota Awards. No door prizes or people’s choice. Drawing for Bob’s Collectible car.  $1,000 invested for the show.

  4. Amber’s Dream Car Build: Will be at Acres of Iron and will be running. Getting interior samples from Hampton Coach. Exhaust is installed and was donated by Dave Barth of Penny’s Muffler.  Working on glass, then wiring. Inland Truck Parts is donating drive shaft.  BTP has wheels and tires to donate if they fit the car.  Looking for interior. Raffle ticket sales start in July at $5 per ticket and run for 1 year.

  5. Buggies-N-Blues: June 13, 2010. PAC enters the show at 9:00am. Meet at 8:30am at Riverwood RV. PAC has security duty at 2pm-3pm. PAC sponsored Bob Long to bring his1908 Maxwell, paid his fee for the Classtiques rod run.

  6. Buckstop Junction:  No update on painting the building. The school tour on May 5 was cancelled. Duane Jangula reported that the Buckstop Junction committee is in favor of the used car lot idea.  The idea is to make an old-style used car parking lot complete with asphault and sales office on the land north of the gas station.  Maybe try to get dirt work done this year to level the land for the lot.

  7. BBQ Grill Truck: The truck will be a pull-type trailer to save on expenses.  Work has not started.  Will probably start after Amber’s Dream car is finished.

  8. Monthly Dinner Cruise: First cruise will be June 7 to Sportsman Bar in Wilton.

  9. Road Rally & Steak Fry: Moved to August 1. Start at Ellefson’s.  Visit Knife River Indian Villages, then eat lunch in Beulah Park. Tour Dakota Gasification plant. Tour Glen Ullin Museum. End at Joe LaFave’s house for steak fry.  $15/person for members & non-members.  Motioned $400 for expenses by Don Roloff, 2nd Betty Beapple.

Drawing for Membership Incentive for $50.  Kent French was not present. Pot is up to $75.  Meeting adjourned at 8:37pm. 1st Jerome Zimmerman, 2nd Dale Speckmann.


Next meeting is June 17, 2010 at Buckstop Junction.
